Gawler Health Service provides high standards of care, an achievement acknowledged in June 2000 when the Australia Council on Healthcare Standards accredited it for a four year period. Opened in 1994, the building is an outstanding physical facility; well furnished and equipped. The Health Service is situated in Gawler East with commanding views over the Gawler region. The Health Service provides its patients with access to a wealth of medical expertise ranging from in-hospital care by your local general practitioners to our specialist surgical, obstetric, pediatric and anesthetic expertise, delivered by medical consultants practicing throughout local and metropolitan areas.
Gawler Health Service is one of seven health regions established within country South Australia in 1996. Gawler Health Service is incorporated under the South Australian Health Commission Act which is administered by the Department of Human Services. The Minister for Health is the Hon Lea Stevens MP.
The Region is managed by a Regional Health Board incorporated under the South Australian Health Commission and essentially has three core responsibilities:

- To plan for the provision of public health services

- To distribute funds to health service providers

- To monitor the performance of health units to ensure services are provided appropriately
